CHAR DHAM YATRA: THE PATH TO SALVATION 🇮🇳
The Char Dhams are the four famous holy places of Hindu pilgrimage, nestled among the lofty peaks of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. It is the ultimate desire of every Hindu to visit these holy shrines at least once in a lifetime to attain salvation (Moksha). This sacred circuit consists of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
Tentative day wise itinerary
Part I: Yamunotri & Gangotri (The Sources)
Day 1: Haridwar to Barkot
🚗 Transfer: Pick up from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun airport.
🛣️ Journey: Drive to Barkot (approx. 180 km / 6 hours).
🛎️ Check-in & Leisure: Check in at the hotel and spend the day relaxing.
🏨 Overnight: Barkot.
Day 2: Yamunotri Darshan & Back
🚗 Drive: Early morning drive to Janki Chatti (45 km).
🥾 Trek: Begin the 6 km trek to Yamunotri (Pony/Doli optional, at own cost).
🙏 Darshan: Take a holy bath in Surya Kund (Hotspring) and visit the Yamunotri temple for Darshan and Pooja.
🔙 Return: Trek back to Janki Chatti and drive back to Barkot.
🏨 Overnight: Barkot.
Day 3: Barkot to Uttarkashi
🚗 Transfer: Drive to Uttarkashi (approx. 100 km / 4 hours).
🛎️ Check-in & Leisure: Check in at the hotel and relax.
🕉️ Temple Visit: Later, visit the ancient Vishwanath Temple.
🏨 Overnight: Uttarkashi.
Day 4: Gangotri Darshan & Back
🚗 Excursion: Full-day excursion to Gangotri (approx. 100 km / 8 hours round trip).
🏞️ Scenery: Enjoy the picturesque beauty of Harsil en-route.
🙏 Darshan: Visit Gangotri Mata Temple and perform Pooja.
🔙 Return: Drive back to Uttarkashi.
🏨 Overnight: Uttarkashi.
Part II: Kedarnath & Badrinath (The Himalayan Abodes)
Day 5: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi Region
🚗 Transfer: Long drive to Sitapur/Phata/Guptkashi (approx. 220 km / 9 hours).
🛎️ Check-in & Leisure: Check in at the hotel upon arrival.
🏨 Overnight: Sitapur/Phata/Guptkashi.
Day 6: Kedarnath Trek & Stay
🚌 Gaurikund: Drive to Sonprayag and take local transport to Gaurikund.
🥾 Trek: Start the trek towards Kedarnath (24 km / 11-12 hours). (Helicopter/Pony/Doli optional, at own cost).
🙏 Darshan: Perform Pooja and Darshan at the Shri Kedarnath Temple.
🏔️ Overnight: Kedarnath (Hotel/Dormitory/GMVN).
Day 7: Kedarnath Down Trek & Back to Base
🥾 Down Trek: Early morning, trek down from Kedarnath to Gaurikund (8-9 hours).
🚌 Transfer: Take local transport to Sonprayag and drive back to the hotel.
🏨 Overnight: Sitapur/Phata/Guptkashi.
Day 8: Guptkashi Region to Pipalkoti / Joshimath
🚗 Transfer: Drive towards Pipalkoti / Joshimath (approx. 210 km / 8-9 hours).
🕉️ Temple Stop: En-route, perform darshan at Tungnath Temple. The trek (3.5 km) can be covered by horse or walking.
🛎️ Check-in & Rest: Check in at the hotel and take some rest in the afternoon.
🏨 Overnight: Pipalkoti / Joshimath.
Day 9: Badrinath Darshan & Sightseeing
🚗 Excursion: Day excursion to Badrinath (approx. 2-3 hours each side).
🛀 Holy Dip: Take a bath in the Taptkund (Hotspring).
🙏 Darshan: Visit Shri Badrinath Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu).
🏞️ Sightseeing: Visit Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, Mata Murti Temple, Bhim Kund, and the source of the Saraswati River.
🔙 Return: Drive back towards Pipalkoti / Rudraprayag (or equivalent base).
🏨 Overnight: Pipalkoti / Joshimath / Rudraprayag.
Day 10: Final Journey to Haridwar
🚗 Transfer: Check out and drive to Haridwar (approx. 165 km / 6 hours).
✈️ Departure: Drop-off at Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun railway station/airport for your onward journey.
